Share the Road
With more than 300,000 motorcycles and mopeds registered in Texas, and that number growing by the year, you'll be even more likely to see riders on the roads as you drive.   Look, look, and then look again when on the roads.  Motorcycles don't have the protection of safety belts, air bags, and other cushioning that other vehicles have.  TxDot reminds you to always look twice for motorcyclists.

HERE’S THE LAW

Texas law requires drivers & front seat passengers in all vehicles to be secured by a safety belt. Children under 17 years old must be secured with a safety belt or in a child safety seat, whether they are sitting in the front or the back seat.  A child under five years old & less than 36 inches tall must ride in a child safety seat. A safety belt violation can result in fines ranging from $25 to $200, plus court costs.

Arbor Day Tree Planting

Saturday, October 25th, 2008

What: Arbor Day Tree Planting
Who: Supported by City of Austin Parks and Recreation Department, TreeFolks, Austin Parks Foundation. All of the community of Austin may participate...so come & join us!
Where: Bartholomew Park (5201 Berkman Dr)
When: 10 AM, Saturday, October 25th, 2008
Why: In celebration of trees and the vast benefits provided by them, Arbor Day takes place to promote appreciation of trees and to educate the community about their value.  From shading the hot pavement and reducing the cost of cooling and heating in our homes to filtering the air we breathe and lifting our spirits, trees improve our lives in countless ways that we rarely stop to recognize.  By dedicating a day to planting trees and performing outreach, Austin residents can help spread knowledge about the urban forest and its worth, while fighting global warming and participating in a fun, recreational event.

Get involved, volunteer to plant trees on this day, through Tree Folks
(512)443-5323.
